Digital legacy questions
Common questions about setting up a digital dead man's switch.
Is this legally binding? Does it replace a will?
No. Countdown Trigger delivers messages — it does not transfer assets, property, or legal rights. It's a communication tool, not a legal document. We recommend using it alongside a proper will and estate plan.
What if I'm just on vacation and forget to check in?
With a 30-day interval, you have a full month between check-ins. If you're worried about a long trip, check in before you leave or adjust the interval. You can also pause the countdown temporarily.
How secure are my messages?
Messages are encrypted at rest and transmitted over TLS. They stay stored until your countdown expires, and our delivery system reads them only at the moment it sends them — never for analytics, advertising, or anything else. For secrets like passwords, we suggest your message point to a password manager's emergency access rather than carry them directly.
Does the monthly check-in really run on the free plan?
Yes. The Free plan includes 1 active countdown with a check-in interval up to 31 days and email delivery to one recipient — a real 30-day legacy check-in, free, no credit card. Pro ($12/mo) adds SMS, up to 20 recipients, and up to 100 countdowns.
Can I send messages to multiple people?
Yes. Pro supports up to 20 recipients per channel on one countdown, and up to 100 countdowns carrying different messages for different people. The Free plan includes one recipient.
What happens if Countdown Trigger shuts down?
If we ever wind down, our plan is to give as much notice as we can and trigger active countdowns first, so pending messages are delivered rather than lost. Your data stays yours — you can request a full export anytime from your account settings.
Can I test it without actually sending messages?
Yes — and not just a preview. The builder has one-click test sends that deliver your actual message to your own inbox or phone, so you can read exactly what your recipients would get before anything goes live.
